Recently in the mail I received a letter from a relative of one of the previous owners of our house. One of her friends had seen our house on the house and garden tour we participated in earlier this year, and had told her about the renovations we had made. The letter further went on to list the names and addresses of the two surviving children in case we wanted to contact them to talk about the house. I, in turn, emailed the letter writer and directed her to this website so that she could see the photographs I have posted of the house throughout the years.

The daughter of the previous owner then contacted me after she found out about the website, and I can’t wait to talk to her about what it was like to grow up in this house. I also am curious to learn about what changes were made to the house by her family, and which ones were existing when they moved in.

When researching the history of your home, make an effort to contact the previous owners. They can often answer questions about renovations that were made, as well as add color to the stories about the house’s history.
